Nestled in the shadow of Grand Teton National Park and the neighboring Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole is a scenic wonder filled with breathtaking views, fascinating wildlife, and year-round recreation. It’s no wonder, then, that the area has long drawn travelers from far and wide with more and more visitors making Jackson Hole their destination of choice every year.

Recognizing the need to provide both residents and visitors with the most accurate area information and convenient amenities, the Jackson Hole and Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center was formed. Staffed with friendly and knowledgeable Jackson Hole residents, the visitor center is located on the north end of town.

Interested in learning more about the area? The Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center should be at the top of your list of places to visit. The center is happy to provide travelers with Jackson Hole, regional, and state information as well as free activity and lodging brochures. Complete with a bookstore and retail shop, the visitor center also prides itself on offering an array of interpretive and educational programs geared towards visitors of all ages.

Those familiar with Jackson Hole’s history know that wildlife has played a crucial role in the region’s development. The same wildlife that led trappers to discover the magnificent Teton Mountains and Jackson Hole in the 1800s is still abundant. In fact, Jackson Hole is known to harbor over sixty species of mammals, 100 species of birds, and a half dozen game fish. Visitors can learn more about these intriguing species with the center’s free wildlife exhibits and theater. In addition, the visitor center boasts views of the world-famous elk refuge with spotting scopes and binoculars, and wildlife and wetland viewing decks are available.

For those simply interested in making a quick pit-stop or acquiring necessary outdoor recreation permits, the Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center serves as a traveler’s full-service destination. National park passes, hunting permits, and fishing licenses are sold at the center, while a scenic park, picnic grounds, and pet exercise area provide a refreshing break from the road. Restrooms, courtesy telephones, an ATM, and stamps and mail drop round out the amenities.

The friendly staff is happy to answer all your area questions and has access to the information you need! The visitor center is open daily year-round with summer hours from 8 AM to 7 PM and winter hours from 9 AM to 5 PM.
