Where the shortgrass prairie of the High Plains meets the Black Hills, you’ll find Newcastle. Railroad enthusiasts will enjoy the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe rail yard with two rail lines through town. Visit the oil storage tank turned gift shop. Study the petroglyphs of Whoopup Canyon, just east of town. See the horse-drawn hearse and the six-legged lamb at the local museum. After enjoying the spectacular scenery and plentiful wildlife of the area, it’s an easy drive to Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower and other Black Hills attractions.
