Saratoga is named for the Iroquois word Sarachtoue, or “place of miraculous water in the rock”. Sitting atop one of the most active mineral hot springs in Wyoming, Saratoga attracts visitors who believe in the healing powers of the natural mineral baths. The town’s history includes copper miing, lumber milling, cattle ranching, and sheep herding. Saratoga offers blue ribbon trout fishing and big game hunting in the nearby mountains and plains. The Ice Fishing Derby at Saratoga Lake draws anglers from around the country. Crowds flock to the Platte Valley’s rodeos, brew festivals, chili cook-off, outdoor concerts, art festivals and the annual chariot races.
