This cozy little community was probably named for Nelson Story, the first man to bring cattle up the Texas Trail, through Wyoming, and into Montana. Charles P. Story, an early newspaperman in Sheridan, may also have given his name to the town. Nestled in the pine-covered Bighorn Mountains, this was where timber was collected to build Fort Phil Kearny.
