Pop. 350 Elev. 4,300

Osage is an Indian name for “on top of the world”. Named for the oil regions in Oklahoma, the first oil well was drilled here in 1890. Later when a gusher well was drilled in 1920 the tiny flag stop community along the railroad became a booming oil town with a refinery and a population of 1,500 in less than a year.
