| Fine-grained gold was discovered here in 1890, and for the next decade, prospectors flocked to the area. In 1892, the Fortunatas Mining and Mlling Company helped establish the town, one of the largest settlements in the Big Horn Mountains. The cost of panning, however, outweighed the value of the yields, and gold fever in the area ended by 1900. |
