Pumpkin Buttes
30 miles east of Midwest on State Highway 387

These five flat-topped landmarks rise 1,000 feet above the surrounding plains of southern Campbell County. Col. James Sawyer rote in his diary, “Made 13 miles over good roads, to a gap in Pumpkin Buttes, from whence we looked down on an immense valley, if such an abyss of hill tops can be so called.” The buttes boast hundreds of tipi rings. The area is rich with uranium deposits.
