Calpet

Named for the California Petroleum Oil Company, this was once a camp for oil workers. Established when oil was struck here in the early 1900s, it became home to some 300 men. A refinery and pipeline were built in 1927 and 1928. In 1956, the refinery closed, the post office closed, and Calpet became a ghost town.
