Baggs
Pop. 348 Elev. 6,245

Situated on a scenic bend of the Little Snake River, this little pastoral town was named for George and Maggie Baggs, major ranchers in the area. It’s peaceful feel today belies its infamous past. Once a gathering place for outlaws in the 1880s and 90s, its isolation made it the perfect place to celebrate the latest heist. A rock fortress nearby was their hideout once the party was over. The Gaddis Matthews House, a refuge cabin built by Butch Cassidy’s gang, still stands here.
