Sgt. Custard Wagon-Train Fight
On private land near Casper

On July 26, 1865 near this site a U.S. Army Wagon Train under the command of Sgt. Custard, Eleventh Kansas Cavalry was attacked by Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians. In a vicious four hour fight, twenty troopers and an unknown number of warriors were killed. All the wagons were burned.
