Born here, at Fort Fetterman, son of an emigrant soldier serving on the Western Frontier, Herman Werner commenced his career as an open range cowboy and went on to develop one of the most notable ranching operations recorded in Wyoming’s history.
Prominently known throughout the state as a rancher, a businessman, a sportsman and a philanthropist, Herman Werner remained at heart a cowboy. Surely, in his own estimation, his greatest success was that ranch workers everywhere recognized him to be “one of the boys”.
